Obama asks the Pope to pray for Kennedy

If you don't know who Senator Edward Kennedy is, you should, at least, recognize the name. Senator Kennedy was a key supporter of President Obama, during his '07-'08 run for presidential office.

Nonetheless, President Obama met with Pope Benedict XVI on July 10th to discuss Catholicm's views on abortion and stem cell research. In the meeting, Benedict XVI awarded Obama a Vatican booklet on Catholicism's morals, in which Obama responded with a promise to decrease America's abortion rate. This promise was followed by a discussion of the Kennedy family.

Obama gave Benedict XVI a letter from Senator Kennedy--who's brother, John F. Kennedy, was the first Roman-Catholic president of the U.S.--in which the contents are unknown. Obama asked that the pope pray for Senator Kennedy, who is suffering from a brain tumor.

It is reported that Obama notified Kennedy on his letter's status, before boarding a flight on the Air Force One.

**Update: Senator Edward Kennedy died on August 25, 2009, due to his battle with brain cancer. My thoughts go out to him and his family. May he rest in peace.
