Work Experience & Internships

Oct. 2012 - Present :
The Washington Post, Editorial Aide at The Root DC

Updating The Root DC's Facebook and Twitter pages is my main task. I post links and photographs from recent content on the sites. I also engage with readers/followers on the sites by asking related questions to the content and re-sharing their thoughts. At times, I also edit and post articles to the Web.

May 2012 - Aug. 2012 :
Banana Republic, Sales Associate

Assisting customers on the floor was my main task. I greeted customers as they came into the store, escorted them to fitting rooms and recommended other clothing options to them if their desired options did not fit and/or could not be found in the store.

Feb. 2012 - Aug. 2012 :
WHYY, Volunteer

Completing research and write-ups for the Arts Calendar on WHYY’s NewsWorks.org website was my main task. Robin Bloom, my coordinator, gave me press releases on activities in the area and I would write summaries about them, which would then be posted on the site.

Sept. 2011 - Dec. 2011 :

Publishing news stories was my main task. The PhiladelphiaNeighborhoods.com portion was a 4-credit class I took at Temple University. However, I was asked to find stories, conduct interviews, record sound, take photographs, produce and edit videos, and post complete packages online for both sites. The beat I covered was Northeast Philadelphia.

July 2009 - Sept. 2010 :
Department of Veterans Affairs, Claims Assistant

Filing paperwork for retired and/or deceased veterans was my main task. I was appointed a stack of paperwork each night and was asked to enter the veterans’ information into a program called CapturePoint, which contained the veterans’ scanned documents. I did not scan the documents myself, but I did verify that all of the correct documentation was scanned and placed into the appropriate online folder.

Sept. 2008 - May 2009 :
Saint Joseph's University, Student Worker at Instructional Technology & Distance Learning (ITDL)

Scheduling presentations for professors was my main task. I answered phone calls and carried equipment, such as laptops and projectors, to various classrooms. I used a program called WebCheck-out, developed by ITDL, to schedule the presentations.

July 2006 – Oct. 2009 :
JCPenney, Customer Service Associate

Completing transactions was my main task. I assisted customers on the floor, if they could not find the item(s) they were looking for. I ordered items through the Catalog, if their desired items were not in the store. A touchscreen computer was used for transactions.

Achievements

2006 - 2007 :
