After amassing $332 million in the U.S. and $667 million worldwide, including a April 17 release in Japan, quickly earning $108 million in 5 weeks, Disney's Alice in Wonderland will reach the $1 billion-mark in worldwide sales on Thursday (said via THR, May 25).
Johnny Depp must be Disney's good luck charm! Alice is Disney's 2nd most grossing film of all time, after Depp's turn as Captain Jack in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which ranked in over $1.07 billion worldwide.
According to THR, Alice In Wonderland is the sixth film in recorded history to reach the $1 billion-mark, recently achieved by James Cameron's Avatar, amassing over $2 billion in worldwide sales. All of the billion-dollar films--Titanic, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Avatar and Alice In Wonderland (in no particular order)--uniquely have had either Spring or Summer releases.
Tim Burton's 3D, world-captivating adventure will be available via DVD/Blu-ray June 1.
