Many find it hard to believe that R&B and Hip-hop superstar Akon discovered Lady Gaga in any sort of way. But it is true that in 2007, while writing records for the likes of Britney Spears, Fergie and The Pussycat Dolls, Gaga's vocal abilities were praised by an astonished Akon and he immediately signed her to his own label, Kon Live Distribution.

Of that signing today, Akon says via The Huffington Post: She's pretty much retired me. ...She came at the right moment. I'm glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off.

The Huffington Post also commented that Lady Gaga was one of top-selling artists of 2009 and that she will be featured on Akon's latest album, debuting this fall.
