Nearly days after Fantasia Barrino was accused of destroying the marriage of North Carolinian couple Paula and Antwaun Cook, the 2004 American Idol champ was hospitalized Monday due to "exhaustion" and an overdose of aspirin and sleeping aids (said via E!, August 10).
Barrino's manager, Brian Dickens, released a statement Tuesday, stating that her overdose was accidental: Her injuries are not life threatening. ...She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon.
Dickens also addressed the controversy surrounding Barrino and Cook, suggesting that she believed he and his wife to be separated at the time of their courtship and that she had fallen in love with him since meeting him last August.
Cook's wife also claims that her husband and Barrino were involved in a sex tape together. Barrino's reps and manager have stated that Mrs. Cook's claim is false.
