Report: Chris Brown's attorney asks 50-yard stay-away order from Rihanna be lifted

Chris Brown was in a Los Angeles courtroom yesterday updating on his probation progress following his 2009 physical altercation with then-girlfriend Rihanna. As in past hearings, Judge Patricia Schnegg was in praise of Brown's work, including his completion of his 52-week domestic violence classes.

Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, asked that his 5-year stay-away order from Rihanna be lifted, in light of the February 13 Grammy Awards, of which Brown is nominated three times and Rihanna is nominated five. Geragos said "It can be a problem with award shows," though the order is limited from 50 yards to 10 at such events.

Judge Schnegg currently awaits approval from Rihanna's attorney before a decision will be made.

CORRECTION: The article previously stated that the stay-away order was 100 yards between both parties. According to CNN.com, the order details 50 yards. The article has since been updated.
