Rihanna speaks on fling w/ Drake

Rihanna & Drake on the set of What's My Name video.

It was of no secret last year that Rihanna and Drake had a short-lived romance prior to the release of her fourth album Rated R. The two were supposed to collaborate on a track together, but for some unknown reason(s), things did not work out. It was speculated that this had to do with a night gone wrong at Lucky Strikes in New York, where the duo was spotted "making out" but was never seen together again. Things, however, have seemed to pan out with their current single What's My Name sitting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and its video being a constant topic amongst the blogosphere.

The duo, surprisingly, never spoke on the ordeal until this year.

Drake told his side of the story on a track titled Fireworks from his debut album Thank Me Later, of which he said: I can tell it wasn’t love, I just thought you f-ck with me/Who coulda predicted love could strike now you stuck with me/Yeh, I kept my wits about me luckily/What happened between us that night it always seems to trouble me/Now all of a sudden these gossip brags wanna cover me/And you making it seem that it happened that way because of me/But I was curious and I’ll never forget it baby/What an experience/You coulda been the one but it wasnt that serious/Their was smoke in the air before now its me cleaing it/That felt good, all and all I learned a lesson from it though/You never see it coming you just get to see it go/Yeah I shoulda looked up in the sky at first.

Now, Rihanna is telling her side of the story of the relationship that never saw daylight. Read an article on what she had to say, below (courtesy of Baller Status):

The recent onscreen romance, between Rihanna and Drake, in her new video for "What's My Name?" has sparked rumors that the two are an item ... as they were rumored to be last year.
While these days, the pair's relationship is platonic -- she's currently dating Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp -- Rihanna opened up about their brief romance in the past during a recent interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez.
In May 2009, reports surfaced that Rihanna and Drake were spotted making out during a night on the town in New York, while the pair were hanging with friends at Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge.
While Drake addressed the relationship in the song, "Fireworks" off his debut Thank Me Later, Rihanna never really spoke publicly until now.
"We weren't really sure what it was," Rihanna told Martinez when asked if they once dated. "We just went out -- my friends, his friends."
Although Rihanna says she was attracted to the young rap star, due to the recent break-up with Chris Brown, she wasn't ready to take on a new relationship. "I definitely was attracted to Drake, but I think it is what it is, like it was what it was," Rihanna explained. "We didn't want to take it any further. It was at a really fragile time in my life, so I just didn't want to get too serious with anything or anyone at that time."
She later explained that today, however, things between the two are great, but they are just friends.
As far as her athlete boyfriend, Rihanna says he saw her steamy new video with Drake and didn't seem to have a problem with it. "[He] never said it out loud, but I don't know what he's thinking," she laughs. "He watched it the other day and he was like, 'I love that video. It's a great video, babe.' I don't know how true that really was, but he seemed to like it."
