Report: Facebook has trademarked the word 'face'

Facebook is officially king of the world. After filing for trademark of the word 'face' in 2005, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office returned notice Tuesday that its request had been allowed. Within the next three months, the site must pay a fee and declare that it is using the trademark properly in a statement of use.

According to The Huffington Post and the official notice of allowance, Facebook will use the trademark 'face' in the following ways: Telecommunication services, namely, providing online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general interest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter....

The site is also pursuing trademark for the words 'like' and 'book'--like, in reference to its Like applications and Like button on statuses, photos, groups and comments, and book, in reference to the second-half of the site's name. It is currently filing suit against TeachBook and Lamebook for such rights.
